Another New Ontario guy here!

Just started building and tuning my first proper dedicated standalone DAW.

It's an AMD based Asus M3A32-MVP-DLX-APed-WiFi (AM2+)which is intended for the new Phenom Quad Cores, but to save money(and help me afford this)I snagged a great deal on ebay for a Athlon 64 2X 6000+ (which is no slouch itself) and tied it to 2X2gb A-Data DDR2 800mHz(4gb of Ram)(although with a Phenom it can go to 1066mHz).

So the conventional wisdom behind this platform choice is that it will allow me a high level of upgradebility for a service duty that will be measured in years.

For my audio DSP hardware, I went with the venerable and powerful EMU 1212M. It's a great card, but it is now the source of the only problems I'm having with this system at all. I have read enough online to know that it's not a simple or lightweight audio platform, but it's well worth the effort of getting the install absolutely right. And in my case, the install is being complicated by the fact that the OEM install CD was damaged in shipping(private ebay purchase) and EMU Creative will not ship replacement CD's and directed me to their website download page. Unfortunately the install needs a file on the install CD that is now included with the App or Driver. I am now uninstalling the onboard HD audio drivers and reinstalling the 1212M for a 3rd time. Due to the problematic application install I'm having problems accessing all of the 1212m's functions within CUBASE SX2.

I can't wait to be getting down to writing and recording.....
But it's going to take some time before I can get this system to run like a turnkey system.

Hopefully in that process, I will get to know some of you as I seek assistance in solving those tricky issues that come along.

See you around!
